A Buyer’s Guide to Armenian Stone and Construction Materials

A Buyer’s Guide to Armenian Stone and Construction Materials

By AdministratorPublished Updated

Armenia is associated with distinctive natural stone and a wider range of construction products. For a project buyer, colour and appearance are only the beginning. Technical performance, dimensional tolerance, finish, quarry or production capacity, packing, documentation, and delivery sequence all affect whether a material is suitable for the job.

Convert the project into a sourcing specification

Provide drawings, quantities, dimensions, thickness, finish, edge treatment, colour range, intended use, destination, installation schedule, and relevant performance requirements. Separate fixed requirements from acceptable alternatives. For natural material, agree how visual variation, veining, pores, and repaired areas will be evaluated.

Request representative samples and data

A small selected sample may not show the full production range. Ask for multiple pieces, current slab or batch photos, and technical information relevant to the application. Confirm which test reports, declarations, certificates, and origin documents are available and whether the destination market or project requires additional assessment.

Evaluate production and consistency

Review extraction or manufacturing capacity, cutting and calibration equipment, surface finishing, quality control, and previous projects. Ask how dimensions, squareness, thickness, shade, surface, and damage are checked. For phased construction, discuss whether later batches can match the approved range and how material will be reserved.

Engineer packing and logistics

Stone and construction products are heavy and vulnerable to edge damage, moisture, or breakage. Specify crates, frames, separators, protection, labels, package weights, loading method, and lifting points. Confirm route restrictions, container or truck utilization, insurance, unloading capability, and who is responsible at each delivery stage.

Use a documented approval and inspection plan

Approve samples, drawings, finish, packing, and marking in writing before production. Define inspection timing and acceptance criteria, and consider independent pre-shipment inspection for significant orders. Record how shortages, breakage, replacement pieces, and claims will be handled without stopping the project.
